Not too long ago, there was a young man named Kile. Kile was a normal guy who loved sports, enjoyed getting together with friends, and had a job at the local super-market bagging groceries. One day, his father came up to him and gave him two things. The first thing was a bucket full of gasoline. The second thing was an instruction. The instruction was this, to take his bucket full of gasoline and walk down a certain road for many miles. That was it. A bit odd sounding? Kile thought so. When Kile asked why he was supposed to do this task, his father told him there was car waiting for him at the end of the road. "A car for me?" Kile asked. "Yup, it will be all yours. That's what the bucket of gas is for," replied his father.
Kile soon found the road his father was talking about and began to walk. As he was walking, he noticed that the gasoline in the bucket was splashing around and some was coming out of the bucket. He made a mental note and made sure to be more careful as he continued.
After he had walked about a mile and a half, he noticed something shining in the sun ahead of him on the right shoulder of the road. As he neared it, he realized it was a car. Kile became extremely excited and bolted over to the car to have a look. It was a sleek looking red sedan. He was so excited that he had finally gotten to his car. But wait, this wasn't his car. His father had given him specific instructions before he left. He said that the car would be at the very end of the road, and it would be in the middle of the street. He thought about the possibility of his father being mistaken, but finally came to the conclusion that this wasn't his car. His would be further down. So he began to walk again.
As he started back down the road, he noticed that while he was running, he had lost quite a bit of the gasoline in his bucket. He scoffed at himself and moved on.
He had been walking for about three miles and had taken to kicking a stone. Something caught the corner of his eye and he looked up and dropped the bucket where he stood. There in the distance he could see unmistakable outline of Roush Mustang. He ran as fast as could only to come to a sliding stop 50 yards away from the car when he realized it too was on the side of the road. He knew this wasn't his either, but he made sure to give the car a good once over before he left. When he went back to retrieve the bucket, he noticed a lot of gasoline on the ground around the bucket from when it had landed on its bottom and splashed out. A bit frustrated, he picked up the bucket and began to walk again…for a long time.
Two days, 51 miles, and 28 cars later, he was about to give up and just hop in the next car he saw and drive back. As he walked he saw yet another car in the distance. He kept his excitement in check this time knowing this car, like all the others, would probably not be his either. But as he neared, he thought that it almost looked like this car was actually in the middle of the road. His pace quickened, as did his heart beat. As he neared he realized, much to his great joy, that this car was in fact in the exact center of the road. He ran on, but slid to a halt about 20 yards later. He couldn't believe his eyes. There, parked in front of him, FOR him, was a beautiful yellow Lamborghini Gallardo. His excitement went sky high. It was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. It was by far the best car he had seen on this road. He ran around the car looking at it, hardly able to believe this was his. All he wanted to do now was hop in and go home. He ran and grabbed his bucket so he could fill up the gas tank. We he looked down into the bucket his feeling of excitement fled and he became nauseated. There in his bucket, in place of almost overflowing gasoline he had started with, was maybe one third of that amount.
Ok, so maybe that's a bit of a corny story, but I think there is a lot that we can learn from it. The point of the story is not to waste your sexuality. We are to stay focused on the mark. What is the mark? It is the one perfect person God has reserved for you.
We have to come to grips with the fact that every time we dabble in a pointless short term relationship, or look at pornography on the internet, or give ourselves to every new guy or girl that comes along, we are giving away a part of our hearts. Parts of our hearts we can never get back.
Don't waste your sexuality on temporary, selfish pleasure, be patient and wait on God. Recognize that whatever His plan is for your life, while not always the easiest, is by far the best!
