Another re-run?
by: Heather Meek
Floating in the news is one interesting tidbit… "Obama Is Said to Consider Preventive Detention Plan". Read the plan and you'll discover that it provides for the establishment of camps. The sole purpose of the camps would be to incarcerate terrorist suspects that cannot be tried legally. Who are the suspected terrorists? The DHS summery "Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment" describes who are considered suspected terrorists. So, in light of history, are these camps a reincarnation of Hitler's concentration camps that imprisoned supposed enemies of the state… those people who were normal, patriotic Germans? Makes you think… are we in for another Holocaust?

Well, I started thinking. I'm hearing impaired. Deaf people don't consider me deaf and hearing people don't consider me hearing. In Hitler's Regime, what would have happened to me? For curiosity's sake, I wanted to know how Hitler's Regime viewed the deaf people and what happened to them during the Holocaust.

It didn't take much searching before I got some results. Of course Hitler's Regime killed or forcibly sterilized the deaf because they weren't considered perfect. I started wondering, what about me? If you take away my hearing aids, you can tell I'm hearing impaired. I'm not deaf but I'm not hearing either. Under Hitler's regime, I'd probably be considered deaf just as the half-Jews were considered Jews and I would have gotten the same treatment as the deaf… forced sterilization or death.

It's a scary thought… enduring a Holocaust experience because other human beings believe that I am subhuman just because I can't hear as well as they. Of course I could just stop listening to the news and make my fear go away but no, I choose to keep listening. My fear drives me to the Cross of Christ where the only real safety is found. Jesus didn't promise a pain-free, persecution-free, prosperous life but He did promise eternal life in Heaven with Him if I truly repent and turn away from my sin. So by focusing on God and His promises, I can endure what man may do to me here on Earth.
