The 27 Hour Day
by: Jonathan Randazzo

There are exactly 24 hours in every single day. That is precisely 1440 minutes, which comes to 86,400 seconds. You might be wondering why I am saying this? Because, I wanted to expose that indisputable and unchangeable fact, and present you with a thought-provoking question to follow that fact. Alright, you say, so what is the question? Well, some of you might be guessing that the question could be why 24 hours is the amount of time allotted to one day, or how long has the 24 hour day been around. But, in point of fact, my question runs via an entirely different tract. It's this: How different would our world be if our days were three hours longer? The 27 Hour Day

Now at first glance three hours may not seem like a whole lot. That's just a 27 hour day. But I wonder sometimes, if we had an hour and a half more to sleep and an hour
and a half more to utilize the day, where would we be. I'm sure many of you are saying, "Not very far from where we are now." Well, at first glance, it would seem so, but let's dive into this theory for a sec.

Let's say you had you had 3 more hours allotted to you for one day. How different would it be? Maybe you could have the time to finish that home repair project you've been putting off because of lack of appropriate time to finish it. If we had more time maybe you could get all that homework done so you could enjoy the weekend without being held back by that annoyance. Ok, but that's only a day.

Let's go onto a month. If you had 3 hours more time a day for a month, would you be that much more ahead? It certainly wouldn't seem like it. I mean really, it's just 3 hours more a day. Well, let's look at it on the monthly scale. In a normal month there is an average of 732 hours. If we added 3 more hours a day for a month we would have an average of 824 hours a month. That's a 92 more hours a month. So that's a couple of days more or less. What's the big deal. Well, let's go bigger.

Yes, a year. In a 24 hour/day year, there are 8760 hours. If there were 27 hours each day for a year, there would be 9888 hours a year. WHOA! That's equal to over a month's time more every year. Could you imagine have 13 months a year. Now are you getting the picture. Even a fool would admit that we would be a little farther ahead if we had one more month a year.

But now, let's move onto the biggest scale of all. The complete age of the earth. Now, I don't know who is reading this, but I don't believe in all of that 4.6 billion year old earth garbage. I believe the earth to be around 6,000 years old as is supported by Scripture. So, looking at that, there are approximately 2,190,000 in our earth's history. But, if we had 27 hour days, our earth would be 2,478,000 years old. That would mean would have had up to this point 288000 more days worth of time. That's 790 more years worth of time!! So, are those three hours looking that small now? What could we have done with 790 more years to date. What would be the status of civilization as we know it. What advances would medicine have made? Would our world's electric system be powered from something crazy like the electricity in our brain transferred through our touch to power whatever we desired? What would the world powers be like? And the biggest question of all, would there still be any world left? Would we have engaged in a WWIII and completely destroyed the earth and all of its inhabitants? Who knows? But assuming all went well and peacefully for those extra 790 years (doubtful I know), where would we be.

Something to think about huh?
